IV Landowners to Benefit from New Partnership
Cave Junction, OR—24 October 2011—Local landowners have a new resource for dealing with concerns with their property. The Illinois Valley Soil and Water Conservation District (IVSWCD) is proud to announce its new Growing Together Landowner Partnership. Growing Together is a voluntary program that provides area landowners with the tools to address their property concerns. Water quality assessments, property maps, and professional consultation are offered free of charge to Illinois Valley residents. Program topics addressed are based on individual landowners’ needs, but may include erosion, weed control, irrigation, and many others.
“It’s our responsibility to leave this place in a better condition than the way we found it,” said IVSWCD Board Chair and vineyard owner Bill Reid. “My wife and I have worked to improve our land for thirty years.” The Growing Together Partnership will provide property owners with strategies for the same kind of long-term engagements, as well as ideas for short-term improvements. These suggestions aim to improve both the future value and natural function of their land.
To introduce the new program, IVSWCD staff and board members offer free coffee and conversation from 10 am-12 noon three days next week. They will be outside the Cave Junction Post Office on Tuesday 1 November and Thursday 3 November; and outside the Post Office in Selma on Wednesday 2 November.
The Illinois Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is a non-regulatory agency, formed in 1949 to connect local landowners with conservation resources. Today, the organization continues to provide property owners with techniques and funding sources to address the challenges of caring for their land. The Illinois Valley Soil and Water Conservation District can be reached at 541-592-3731 or online at www.ivstreamteam.org. District offices are located in the Josephine County Building in Cave Junction.
